How forex market hours work

The forex market runs 24 hours a day, five days a week, handed off between four major centres — Sydney, Tokyo, London, and New York. It opens with Sydney on Monday morning (Sunday evening in the Americas) and closes when New York shuts on Friday. Each session is each centre's conventional 8am–5pm local trading window (Tokyo 9am–6pm); daylight-saving shifts are applied automatically. Volume is heaviest where two sessions overlap — most of all during the London/New York crossover.
